Most popular countries for non EU citizens moving abroad revealed

France and Germany could provide good locations for international property investment as they are the countries allowing the most new European Union (EU) citizens.

New statistics released by the European Commission revealed the distribution of citizens admitted to the 27 EU countries between 1998 and 2007.

Out of a total of almost 700,000 individuals living abroad in the EU, nearly 60 per cent were taken into the UK, Germany or France.

It was announced last week that the EU block of countries have officially left recession, although labour statistics show that unemployment is still an issue.

This suggests that there will be a demand for affordable buy to let housing.

The average number of citizen ships per 1,000 residents was 1.4. France and the UK both allowed more than this at 2.1 and 2.7 respectively.
Turkey and Morocco were the countries of most immigrants’ previous citizenship. However these figures could be set to change if Turkey is admitted into the EU.

It would seem that language played a large part in the immigrants’ choices as France was by far the most popular destinations for those moving abroad from Morocco and Spain received the most immigrants from Columbia and Ecuador.
